Things to think about when replacing a loo

Replacing a new loo for an old one is reasonably straightforward, and can usually be completed by a plumber within one hour as long as the water supply and drain can be used without too much adjustment.

If your floor tiles are cut around the loo, then you really need a new loo with a base which will fit in that gap. But, if the original bathroom installation was done diligently, your loo will be resting on a continuous tiled surface and it doesn’t matter too much if the new loo has a slightly different footprint.

Look carefully at where the water pipes come in and out of your existing loo and purchase a replacement which will allow them to be re-used without too much adjustment (e.g. the water pipe feeding into the cistern might enter the cistern from the side or the bottom … best to get a new loo which allows for the same position).
