Replace an immersion heater
Immersion heaters are usually used just as a backup if your boiler stops working. They work like a kettle: a heating element sits ("immersed") in the water tank and electricity heats up the element, heating up the water. They heat water much more slowly than a boiler will, but are cheap and simple so provide a useful back-up for any occasions when your boiler is out of action. If your immersion heater has stopped working, check the fuse first (there should be a fused switch on the wall near your water tank, with a cable running from there to the side of the tank). If the fuse is not blown, the element will need replacing. This is generally straightforward, although if your heater has been in place for many years, it could take a while to release it from the tank to replace it.This price is for labour only, allow about £50 for the replacement heating element.
